Vol. 469 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Co-ordinating Committee on Drug Abuse.

Tony Gregory

Question:

28 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if the national co-ordinating committee on drug abuse will be enlarged in order to make it more representative of community groups and voluntary organisations involved in the drug problem. [12576/96]

Limerick East): Discussions are in progress between my Department and the Department of Justice about arrangements for co-ordinating the activities of agencies involved in the fight against drugs at national, regional and local level, including the role of voluntary and community organisations. When agreement has been reached proposals will be put to Government for approval.

I am conscious of the demands from voluntary and community groups for representation at national level and particular attention will be paid, in the discussion to which I have referred, to finding a means by which this can be achieved.
