Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sexual Abuse Inquiry.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

24 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health the current status of the inquiry by the Western Health Board into allegations of sexual abuse in a residential home (details supplied); and when the inquiry will be completed. [17154/96]

Following the initial allegation by a former resident, the Western Health Board made inquiries into alleged reports of physical and sexual abuse at the home referred to. These inquiries were undertaken in co-operation with the Garda with whom the board continues to maintain contact. In July 1996, the board wrote to all ex-residents with whom they had been in contact updating them on the position of the Garda investigation. A decision by the DPP in relation to a prosecution is currently being awaited.
