Question:

63 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total amount paid to farmers in respect of headage payments, premia payments and any other compensatory payments for 1995 and to date in 1996. [17579/96]

The amount of direct income payments to farmers in 1995 was £745 million of which £415 million relates to 1995 livestock headage and premia and arable aid schemes.

Direct income payments to date in 1996 amount to £410 million, of which £75 million is in respect of 1996 schemes listed above.
