Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Voluntary Early Retirement Scheme.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

198 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Defence whether additional places have been made available for members who are applicants for voluntary early retirement; the number of such vacancies; and the criteria to be used in allocating the package. [18134/96]

An additional 50 voluntary early retirement places were made available recently. This brings to 500 the total number of places available this year.

In evaluating applications for voluntary early retirement the VER board applied the following criteria: skill requirements of the Defence Forces, age of applicant, progression towards convergence with the new Defence Forces structures, continued viability of PDF units, cost — both exit and replacement.
