Theresa Ahearn

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

112 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she will re-examine the decision by her Department whereby mature students who apply for higher education grants and use their home addresses are assessed as dependants of their parents and their grant applications are thereby refused; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16355/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 112 together.

Mature students who reside in their parents' home are deemed to be dependent for the purposes of establishing their eligibility for grant assistance.

I have no plans to modify the existing provisions in this regard.
