Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

John Ellis

Question:

114 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to terminate the facility for requests for transfers by prisoners to other prisons. [18405/96]

Transfers of prisoners between the various institutions take place on a regular basis for sound, operational reasons and are essential to the overall management of the prison system and, indeed, of prisoners' sentences.

All prisoners from time to time submit various requests to the Governor of their institution. I am not aware of any basis for terminating this practice in so far as transfers are concerned.
