Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Children in Care.

Tony Killeen

Question:

105 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Health if a scheme exists under which children are taken into care by health boards for weekends or other periods, when their parents inform social workers that they require a baby sitting service; and the number of occasions, if any, the Mid-Western Health Board has provided this service. [19231/96]

The Child Care Act, 1991, outlines the circumstances in which children are taken into care by health boards. The boards have never taken any child into care for any period on the basis of a parental request for a baby sitting service. All admissions to care are based on a professional assessment that the safety and welfare of a child requires the child to be received into care.
