Question:

117 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health the person(s) on the advisory body on brain diseases which he recently established. [19392/96]

Limerick East): I recently established a group of health experts to provide advice to me on matters relating to Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). The group will advise me on such issues as surveillance of CJD in Ireland, the public health considerations arising from scientific developments concerning CJD and other transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), and research strategies for CJD and TSEs.

The membership of the advisory group is as follows: Prof. William Hall (Chairperson), Virologist, Virus Reference Laboratory, UCD; Mr. Hugh Boyle, Community Health Division, Department of Health; Dr. John Devlin, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health; Prof. John Flynn, Consultant Bacteriologist, University College Hospital, Galway; Mr. Colm Gaynor, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry; Dr. Michael Hutchinson, Consultant Neurologist, St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin; Dr. Catherine Keohane, Neuropathologist, Cork University Hospital; Dr. James Kiely, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health; Dr. Darina O'Flanagan, Specialist in Public Health Medicine, Eastern Health Board.
