Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ministerial Staff.

Ivor Callely

Question:

119 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the resources available to him and the Minister(s) of State at his Department for the running of ministerial offices and constituency offices in terms of support services, finance and personnel, established and non-established, programme managers and special advisers; if he will give a breakdown in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19132/96]

The Ministerial office in my Department is staffed by eight established civil servants and three un-established civil servants. The latter includes one programme manager and two special advisers.

Their combined annual salaries, with effect from 1 October 1996, is approximately £253,000 — i.e. approximately £138,000 for the eight established civil servants and £115,000 for the three unestablished civil servants.

The constituency office in my Department is staffed by one established civil servant and one unestablished civil servant whose annual salaries, with effect from 1 October 1996, are approximately £10,000 and £19,500, respectively.
The salaries and all other day-to-day expenses associated with the running of these offices are met from the appropriate sub-heads in my Department's administrative budget, which is approved by the Dáil as part of the Estimates each year. There is no Minister of State in my Department.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

120 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the cost of salaries and incidental expenses of all programme managers, special advisers and other non-established contract staff in his Department for each of the years from 1994 to date in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19162/96]

The total cost of salaries (including allowances) and incidental expenses — travel and subsistance payments — of all programme managers, special advisers and other non-established contract staff in my Department for the period from 1994 to date in 1996 was £449,173.
