Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

184 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education the postgraduate students who are eligible for a grant towards the payment of their fees; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19247/96]

A student who is in receipt of a higher education grant to pursue an undergraduate course may have that grant continued to pursue an approved course at postgraduate level.

Students who are commencing an approved course at postgraduate level and in doing so are entering an approved third level course for the first time may also be considered for the award of a grant. Students who have already pursued a postgraduate course outside the state without assistance from Irish public funds are eligible for student support in respect of a second postgraduate course which is approved for the purposes of student support. Students who have attended but not completed an approved course and are returning following a break of at least five years in order to pursue an approved course are also eligible to apply.
In these circumstances a student must satisfy all the other conditions of the relevant student support schemes.
