Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Publicity and Public Relations Costs.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

247 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount paid by his Department in relation to publicity and public relations in each of the years from 1994 to date in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19183/96]

My Department engages in a wide variety of advertising and publicity through national, provincial and local media in order to highlight developments in the social welfare system, including the introduction of new schemes and improvements to existing schemes. Other forms of publicity and advertising include information campaigns, participation in events and exhibitions and the design and printing of information posters.

The total cost of such advertising and information projects was £378,000 in 1994 and £397,000 in 1995. A total of £264,000 has been paid to date in 1996.
