Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Donegal Factory Strike.

James McDaid

Question:

27 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the current position regarding the strike at Oatfield Sweet Factory in Letterkenny, County Donegal. [17866/96]

I have stated previously to the House that the resolution of industrial disputes is a matter for the parties directly concerned. Parties in dispute may of course avail of the services of the dispute settling agencies of the State.

In relation to this dispute, I understand that prior to the commencement of strike action the parties availed of the services of the Labour Relations Commission and the Labour Court in their efforts to reach a settlement.

I take this opportunity to urge the parties to renew their efforts to resolve this dispute. The services of the Labour Court remain available to the parties, if required.
