Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Day Care Centre.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

99 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health if he will provide funding for a day care centre (details supplied) in County Tipperary in view of the need for this facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19125/96]

Limerick East): The provision of day care centres in South Tipperary is, in the first instance, a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board. While the board recognises the need for day care services in Cashel, it must first take into account its overall capital priorities and the availability of resources.

The board informs me that it has endeavoured to support the Cashel parish council in its efforts over the years regarding the provision of day services. At present the board has agreed to examine the physical lay-out of St. Patrick's, Cashel, with a view to determining whether a day care centre can be incorporated into the existing building. If this proves possible, I expect to receive a submission from the board outlining its proposals for such a project.
