Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Taxi/Hackney Regulations.

Willie O'Dea

Question:

136 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the new taxi and hackney regulations are not working in Limerick and that the livelihoods of over 200 taxi drivers are endangered as a result; the proposals, if any, he has to amend the regulations to make them more effective; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19796/96]

A review of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1995, was commenced in my Department last month. As part of that review, licensing authorities were asked for their comments on the operation and application of the regulations. A number of authorities, including Limerick Corporation, have submitted comments and these will be carefully examined in the context of the review.
