Noel Dempsey

Question:

139 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the contacts or queries, if any, he has received from the United Kingdom, further to his seeking on 4 September 1996, a derogation for the treatment of Irish medical waste in the United Kingdom from the United Kingdom authorities; if any meeting has been held or is scheduled to be held in this regard; if any contact or representation has been made from the Irish side at ministerial level since 4 September 1996 in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19826/96]

The response of the UK authorities to the submission made by my Department on 4 September 1996 has been set out in a consultation paper of 28 October 1996 a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. The UK Government proposes, subject to statutory consultation requirements, to agree to the request to permit the continued export of certain clinical wastes.
