Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Driving Test Applications.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

152 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants for driving tests in Tipperary town; the average waiting time for a test; and the number of people waiting for a cancellation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20050/96]

There are currently 454 applicants on the waiting list for driving tests at Tipperary test centre. Appointments have already been issued to 120 of these and they will be tested within the next 4/5 weeks. A further 49 applicants have either cancelled a previous appointment or have indicated that they do not wish to be given an early appointment.

The average waiting period for driving tests in Tipperary test centre is 17 weeks. The number of applicants waiting for a cancellation is 52. In the first nine months of 1996, 30 per cent of those who applied for a cancellation in Tipperary were tested within five weeks, and all such applicants were tested within ten weeks of applying.
