Vol. 470 No. 8

Written Answers. - Report to United Nations.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

31 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the progress, if any, which has been made regarding Ireland's first report under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; when it is intended to publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20013/96]

Ireland's first report under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights was completed earlier this month and has been submitted to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The preparation of this report required extensive consultation and co-ordination between the human rights unit in the Department of Foreign Affairs and other Government departments which have substantive responsibility for the implementation of the provisions of this covenant. The report is now in the process of being published and will be circulated to Deputies, Senators, Government offices, public libraries, the Government Publications Office and interested parties when this process is complete.
