Vol. 471 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bangor Erris (Mayo) Water Supply.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

145 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment the action, if any, he proposes to take on foot of the recommended tenders submitted to his Department in November 1992, in respect of the Erris regional water supply scheme extension to Bangor Erris and Glenamoy in view of the fact that the current water supply has been condemned by the Western Health Board and is not sufficient to cater for the expansion taking place in that area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20575/96]

Question:

152 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction a new water supply to Bangor Erris, County Mayo, in view of the fact that the current water supply in the village has been condemned by the Western Health Board and is not being used by the local community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20282/96]

Tom Moffatt

Question:

162 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction a new water supply, which is readily available for Bangor Erris, County Mayo, in view of the fact that the current service of supply has been condemned by the Western Health Board. [20427/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 145, 152 and 162 together.

I am aware that the supply referred to does not consistently comply with all the parameters for drinking water and that following recent quality tests, Mayo County Council have advised consumers to boil water before use. While tenders for the proposed Erris regional water supply scheme, which includes Bangor Erris and Glenamoy, have been with my Department since November 1992, I regret that, having regard to the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the scheme.
