Vol. 471 No. 1

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax.

Máirín Quill

Question:

64 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Finance the yield to date in 1996 and the estimated likely yield of residential property tax on a county by county basis; the amount by which it is estimated the yield in 1996 will exceed the yield in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20320/96]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the yield from residential property tax in 1996 to date amounts to £12.3 million. The projected yield for the year 1996 is £13.5 million. This will exceed the 1995 yield by £1.4 million.

The due date for filing residential property tax returns and paying any tax due is 1 October each year. The Revenue Commissioners are not in a position to process all returns and payments until some time afterwards. Accordingly, it is not possible at this stage to provide the Deputy with a breakdown of 1996 payments on a county by county basis.

However it is anticipated that such breakdown will not differ substantially from that for valuation date 5 April 1995.
