Vol. 471 No. 2

Written Answers. - Scoil Íde (Limerick) Extension.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

127 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Education if her Department will sanction the necessary funding for the building of a permanent extension to Scoil Íde, Corbally, Limerick, the local contribution for which is in place, in view of the pressure on accommodation in the school which has very large numbers for a primary school; and if so, when the necessary work will commence. [20550/96]

The inclusion of Scoil Íde on the 1995 Capital Programme should be seen as the beginning of the process of constructing a nine classroom extension at the school.

The current position is that my Department's architectural service is preparing the tender documents. In tandem with this, my Department is also considering applications from contractors and sub-contractors who applied to be considered for inclusion on the Department's tender list for a number of school projects, including Scoil Íde. This is the first step in the tender process. When the project is ready for tender, a decision on the timing of the tender process will be made in light of the financial resources available. It is therefore not possible at this point to state when construction will commence.
