Vol. 471 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Woods

Question:

32 Dr. Woods asked the Minister for Health if he will review the practice whereby section 65 organisations which provide residential care, often with weekend breaks for home visits, have their grants reduced by the Eastern Health Board by the full amount of the disabled person's maintenance allowance; his views on whether this practice is acceptable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19114/96]

Limerick East): Where clients are maintained by the Eastern Health Board or a section 65 organisation in accommodation in the community, it is normal practice that they contribute towards their maintenance from their personal income. Where a client has a disabled person's maintenance allowance, it is considered appropriate that that person contributes towards his/her maintenance from that income, less an amount set aside to cover personal needs as deemed appropriate. The budget of the organisation concerned is adjusted in line with income received.
