67 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the average lamb prices per country in the EU in each of the months from January to September in 1995 and 1996; and if he will make a statement on the implications, if any, of these prices for Irish lamb producers. The average lamb prices per country in the EU in each of the months from January to September in 1995 and 1996 are listed in the following table. The average price in the increased by 13 per cent in 1996 compared to 1995. The largest percentage increase was in Spain where prices increased by 18 per cent. This was followed by Ireland and the United Kingdom where increases of 17 per cent comparing prices expressed in ECU, were recorded.
