Vol. 471 No. 5

Written Answers. - Eyrecourt (Galway) Garda Station.

Noel Treacy

Question:

148 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Justice the reason a project (details supplied) in County Galway has not commenced; the date on which it will commence; the amount of work to be done; the amount of money allocated; if she is committed to providing immediate resources for this project; if she will provide residential officers there subsequent to the completion of the project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21341/96]

Work on this project could not be sanctioned until the Office of Public Works had reported on what needed to be done. Such a report and an estimated costing was recently received. The project has now been approved and it is expected that work will commence in the near future. Precise costs will not be available until tenders are received. The work to be carried out includes internal refurbishment, window replacement, provision of an oil fired central heating system and internal and external painting.

I understand that a garda has undertaken to occupy the married quarters when the above work has been completed.
