Vol. 471 No. 5

Written Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Sewage Treatment Works.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

27 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment when work will commence to examine the feasibility of extending the existing sewage treatment works at Swords or the construction of a new regional works elsewhere in view of his stated position that consultants will be appointed by Fingal County Council in this regard; whether two separate studies will be undertaken; and when the results of these studies will be published. [20756/96]

A brief for the appointment of consultants to prepare a preliminary report in relation to the Swords wastewater treatment works was approved by my Department last May. Advancement of the planning of the scheme is now a matter for Fingal County Council. While the brief contained two options, to extend the existing plant or to construct a new regional plant, it is now understood that the latter option is no longer being pursued by the council.
