Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Tony Gregory

Question:

302 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the reason there are no regular Garda foot patrols in an area (details supplied) of the North Circular Road in Dublin 7, resulting in a spate of break-ins to cars and property; and if she will ensure that effective patrols, surveillance and security are provided to local residents. [21921/96]

The deployment of Garda personnel is the responsibility of the Garda authorities and they have informed me that as part of Operation Dóchas, introduced by the gardaí on 7 October 1996, there is one sergeant and two gardaí responsible for foot patrols in the area referred to in the question. The area is also patrolled by routine mobile patrols, the Task Force and the Divisional Drug Units.

The Garda authorities are satisfied that the area concerned is receiving appropriate Garda attention.
