Written Answers. - Court Sittings.

Noel Treacy

Question:

17 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Justice the number of cases in which Judge Dominic Lynch participated on the Bench in the Special Criminal Court since 1 August 1996. [21787/96]

Michael Smith

Question:

29 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Justice whether Judge Dominic Lynch adjudicated upon any case in the Special Criminal Court during the period from 1 August 1996 to date, in the course of which any individual was convicted. [21786/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 17 and 29 together.

His Honour Judge Dominic Lynch participated in sittings of the Special Criminal Court on four dates since 1 August, 1996, viz., 8 15, 16 and 28 October. At those sittings the court heard 11 cases involving 21 persons.

None of the persons who appeared at a sitting of the Special Criminal Court in which Judge Lynch was involved since 1 August, 1996 was convicted by the court.

Finally, I should say that, the cases of all 21 persons who appeared at the October, 1996 sittings of the Special Criminal Court in which Judge Lynch participated, are ongoing before the courts.
