Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Mildred Fox

Question:

216 Ms M. Fox asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to build a school in the Kilcoole area of County Wicklow in view of the increasing population in this area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22666/96]

The present position is that the planning section of my Department has commenced a review of post-primary school needs in the general area from Bray to Wicklow Town. The key factors which will influence the need or otherwise for a school in Kilcoole will be the capacity of the existing schools to continue to cater for the area, demographic trends and proposed housing development.

When the review is completed and recommendations submitted to me, I will be in a position to decide whether a post-primary school is needed for Kilcoole.
