Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Guidelines on Bullying at Work.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

295 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the guidelines, if any, which are in place or which are planned to deal with stress and bullying in the workplace. [22835/96]

Publication of guidelines on occupational health and safety is a day to day matter for the National Authority for Occupational Health and Safety. The authority has issued guidelines on stress in the workplace and plans to review this during 1997.

Regulation 5 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, 1993 (S.I. No. 44 of 1993), sets out the general duties of an employer to take account of all risks to the safety and health of employees. Stress and bullying are one such risk that an employer has to take account of.
