Vol. 472 No. 2

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Brian Lenihan

Question:

38 Mr. Lenihan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the implications, if any, for his Department of the proposed introduction of the freedom of information legislation; and the action, if any, his Department will take to ensure the full implementation of such legislation. [22166/96]

It is expected that the text of the Freedom of Information Bill will be published in the very near future. Arising from the proposed legislation, all Departments will need to undertake a number of specified initiatives.

An intergovernmental working group has been established to examine all issues likely to arise from the proposed legislation. The Department of Social Welfare actively participates in this group.
