Vol. 472 No. 3

Written Answers. - Neurofibromatosis Assistance.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

70 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Health the help and assistance, if any, which is available from his Department for sufferers of neurofibromatosis. [22972/96]

Limerick East): Sufferers of neurofibromatosis are entitled to apply for assistance under a wide range of schemes which are available to all people with disabilities. These include the medical card scheme, drug cost subsidisation scheme, drugs refund scheme, mobility allowance and various therapy and support services such as home help and aids and appliances.

I approved a lottery grant of £5,000 last year to help the Neurofibromatosis Association to increase awareness of the condition. The association has published an information leaflet, a copy of which I am arranging to send to the Deputy.
