Vol. 472 No. 6

Written Answers. - Moy Fishery, Mayo.

Michael Ring

Question:

233 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine if he will transfer the responsibility for the Moy Fishery from the Central Fisheries Board to the regional fisheries board. [23639/96]

The Moy Fishery, Ballina, County Mayo is owned and managed by the Central Fisheries Board. Section 8 (2) of the Fisheries Act, 1980 provides that the Central Fisheries Board may, subject to such conditions as it shall determine, place a fishery under the care and management of a regional fisheries board.

I understand that a submission by the NorthWestern Regional Fisheries Board seeking transfer to it of the Moy Fishery is under consideration at present by the Central Fisheries Board.
