Vol. 472 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disabilities Report Monitoring Committee.

Mary Wallace

Question:

78 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the membership of the committee established to monitor the implementation of the report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities; the number of times the committee has met; the dates of these meetings; the frequency with which the committee will meet; the frequency and form in which the committee will publicly report on its work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23839/96]

I have requested the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities to meet one more time and to nominate four or five members to the monitoring committee to oversee the implementation of the commission's recommendations. I understand that the commission will meet shortly to carry out that task. When I receive the commission's nominations, I will arrange for the setting up of the committee which will be representative of people with a disability, their families and carers, as well as service providers, social partners and Departments.

It will be a matter primarily for the monitoring committee to decide the frequency of its meetings and the form in which it will report on its work.
