Vol. 472 No. 6

Written Answers. - Killaspugbrone (Sligo) Site.

Declan Bree

Question:

88 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he has received a communication from Sligo County Council seeking approval from the heritage services section of his Department for the rebuilding of the perimeter wall of the burial ground at Killaspugbrowne churchyard, County Sligo; if his Department has been requested to specify the works, if any, which will be permitted on the existing Killaspugbrone Church site; the funding, if any, which will be available from his Department for such works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23997/96]

I wish to confirm that the national monuments and historic properties service, NMHPS, of my Department has recently replied to a communication from Sligo County Council regarding work at Killaspugbrone churchyard, County Sligo. The NMHPS has given approval to the rebuilding of the perimeter wall and advised the local authority of the necessary requirements for any proposed works in order to ensure the protection of the site.

As Killaspugbrone is not in State care my Department would not provide funding for such works.
