Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Toxic Harbour Silt.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

141 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for the Marine the steps, if any, he intends to take to remove the toxic harbour silt which was taken from beneath the synchro-lift in Dunmore East and dumped on land at Portally, Dunmore East, County Waterford, adjacent to domestic wells; the costs associated with this removal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24082/96]

I have directed that immediate arrangements are made for the removal of the spoil and I understand that arrangements for the appointment of a contractor are being finalised at present with a view to its early removal. The estimated cost of removal is of the order of £45,000.
