Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Operation Freeflow.

Tom Kitt

Question:

90 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment the provision, if any, which have been made for disabled drivers in relation to Operation Freeflow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24071/96]

The package of measures which was announced on 2 December was aimed at combating the growing problem of traffic congestion in Dublin city by the application of new traffic and parking management measures, an increased emphasis on traffic law enforcement and by providing a better environment for the operation of the city's bus fleet. The package contains measures of a general nature and was not intended to cater for the needs of particular groups. However, the emphasis on encouraging short-term parking as opposed to all day parking should improve the availability of parking places and this should be of particular benefit to disabled drivers who may park at meter and disc parking places without payment of parking fees.
