Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Donal Moynihan

Question:

106 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education if she will approve a full higher education grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [24088/96]

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme, the reckonable income for the purposes of the award of a grant is gross income from all sources of the candidate and his/her parents or guardians where applicable.

I understand from Cork County Council, the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grants scheme, that the reckonable income in the case of the student in question exceeds the income limit for the payment of the full rate of maintenance. However, she has been awarded a 50 per cent maintenance grant.
