Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

38 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the current position regarding the location of an alternative site to the Newry Road, Dundalk, County Louth, in connection with the decentralisation programme to Dundalk; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21530/96]

Since it was decided to seek an alternative site for the decentralised offices in Dundalk, there has been ongoing contact between the Office of Public Works and Louth County Council aimed at progressing the matter. The Government is anxious that this matter should be brought to a speedy conclusion. At a meeting on 3 December, proposals for the transfer to the Office of Public Works of part of a site at Barrack Street owned by the county council were discussed. It is understood that these proposals will shortly be discussed with the county council by the county manager.
