Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Noel Ahern

Question:

95 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the proposed new girls' secondary school at St. Wolstan's School, Celbridge, County Kildare; the status of the design and planning process stage; when construction is due to commence; if the proposed site opposite the boys' school on Maynooth Road is definitely earmarked for the school; if not, whether the site is required for industrial use; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24243/96]

The building unit of my Department commissioned a feasibility study of land at Ballymakealy, Celbridge, County Kildare, which is owned by Kildare County Council, to determine its suitability as a site for the new school in replacement for St. Wolstan's girls' secondary school.

The feasibility study is now complete and has been examined in detail by my Department. The acquisition of the site will be subject to the resolution of a number of outstanding technical issues between the Department and Kildare County Council.

It is not possible at this point to give a precise date for commencement of work on site.

The future use of the Mooretown site has not yet been determined. However, my Department has no knowledge of the site being required for industrial use.
