Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Certificate of Driving Competency.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

105 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to a specific case involving the expiry of a driving test certificate on 8 December 1996 of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16; if he will make an exception under specific circumstances to avoid this person having to undergo a further driving test due to the fact that the original certificate was mislaid after two burglaries at her home; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25005/96]

Article 26 of the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations, 1989, provides that a certificate of competency shall cease to be valid on the expiration of a period of two years after the date of issue. I have no power under the regulations to extend that period of validity in individual cases.
