Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment of Share-Fishermen.

Joe Walsh

Question:

165 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the plans, if any, he has to address the ongoing concerns of share-fishermen; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24928/96]

A review of the social insurance provisions applying to the employment of share-fishermen is being carried out in the Department.

In connection with this, my colleague the Minister of State, Deputy Durkan, met representatives of the fishing bodies on 7 June last. A further meeting with these bodies will be held shortly.

Any proposals brought forward in this area would have to be considered in a legislative context.
