Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Insurance Fund.

Joe Walsh

Question:

185 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the projected out-turn for the Social Insurance Fund for 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24950/96]

Provisional outturns for the social insurance fund for 1996 will not be available until around end-January 1997.

The best estimates, at this stage, indicate that fund expenditure, including provision for the Christmas bonus, will be around £1,895 million and that PRSI income will be around £1,780 million. This means that the deficit on the fund, in respect of 1996, will be around £115 million, representing 6 per cent of fund expenditure.
