Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Ivor Callely

Question:

221 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the cost of the Irish Presidency to his Department. [25150/96]

The total allocation to my Department for Presidency-related activity is £710,000 of which £291,623.47 has been spent so far.

Major items of expense include the hosting of an informal meeting of Ministers for Labour Affairs, various conferences, and associated accommodation and travel costs.

Due to the fact that Ireland holds the Presidency of the European Union in the latter half of 1996 some expenditure has arisen only in the very recent past and further payments will be made between now and the end of the year, and indeed early into the new year.
