258 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of motor tax collected by each licensing authority in each of the years from 1994 to 1996 broken down into amounts for private vehicles and commercial vehicles. [1324/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 258 and 302 together.

The amounts of motor tax collected in respect of private cars, motor cycles and all other vehicles in 1994 and 1995 are set out in the following tables. The figures shown for arrears are not subdivided between tax classes as they are not compiled in that manner at present.

Corresponding figures for 1996 are not yet available. However, the gross lodgments to local motor tax accounts are given in the reply to Question No. 40 on today's Order Paper.
