Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Employee Entitlements.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

486 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will ensure that the previous employees of a firm (details supplied) in County Kilkenny receive all their due entitlements, redundancy payments and the renewal of apprenticeships for two young trainees. [1278/97]

I am advised that my Department has not received notification, as required under the redundancy payments legislation, that the employer in question proposes making employees redundant.

It is, as the Deputy knows, the responsibility of the employer to ensure that employees are given their entitlements. In relation to entitlements under legislation for which I am responsibe, there are mechanisms in place to assist employees who feel that their rights have not been vindicated.

FÁS deal with the issues related to apprenticeships which the Deputy has raised.
