Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Reactor Levels.

John Ellis

Question:

527 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the mechanisms used for calculating reactors for brucelosis and tuberculosis; and the changes, if any, which have been made in this regard in the past two years. [1128/97]

For an animal to be classed as a TB or brucellosis reactor it must (i) be positive to a diagnostic test or be deemed to be a diseased animal on clinical/epidemiological grounds by a veterinary inspector, and (ii) be punched and tagged as a reactor and removed to slaughter to the designated slaughter premises via the reactor collection service. There has been no change in this policy in the past two years.
