Question:582 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the total cost to his Department of the Presidency of the EU; and if he will give details of such costs. [1250/97]

A sum of £320,000 was provided in the 1996 Estimates to cover the cost to my Department of the Irish Presidency of the EU. It is not possible at this stage to give the Deputy the final cost as there are a significant number of bills due from a number of areas, particularly the Department of Foreign Affairs which will affect the final cost to my Department.
