Vol. 473 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

John Browne

Question:

111 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in having a person (details supplied) in County Wexford admitted to Ardkeen Hospital, Waterford, for eye surgery in view of the person's business difficulties due to his condition; and if he will have arrangements made to have him admitted to hospital for surgery as soon as possible. [2010/97]

Limerick East): The provision of ophthalmic treatment to eligible persons in County Wexford is the statutory responsibility of the South-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I understand from the board that the person in question was seen in the out-patient department in October 1996 and was placed on the in-patient waiting list. The board expects that this person will be called for surgery in March 1997.

Michael Ring

Question:

112 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for a hip operation in view of the fact that he is in pain and has been waiting for some time. [2011/97]

Limerick East): As the provision of orthopaedic treatment to eligible persons in County Mayo is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board in the first instance I have asked the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.

Michael Ring
