Vol. 473 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Albert Reynolds

Question:

211 Mr. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education if she will give a date for the start of a new national school building at Clontuskert, Lanesboro, County Roscommon, in order to avoid withdrawal of all children from school and a strike by the INTO over the lack of progress by her Department in getting the building of this new school under way. [2329/97]

The current position of the construction of a new national school at Clontuskert, Lanesboro, County Roscommon, is that an advertisement was placed in national and local newspapers during the week ending 24 January 1997, inviting contractors and sub-contractors who wish to be considered for inclusion in the tender prequalification process to apply to the primary contracts section of my Department before 12 noon, Friday, 28 February 1997.

A decision on the timing of the tender and contract process will be taken in the light of available financial resources and at this stage I am unable to indicate the time frame for the commencement of the project.
