I refer the Deputy to my reply to Dáil Question No. 110 on 11 December 1996, in which I set out clearly my Department's position in relation to the recent decision by the Mercy Sisters to phase out the Order's secondary school in Buttevant.
Discussions are ongoing between my Department and all the relevant parties, including the Buttevant School Retention Committee, with a view to making appropriate alternative arrangements for the continuity of educational provision for post-primary pupils from the Buttevant area.
The Deputy may be assured that this matter is receiving urgent attention in my Department.
