256 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice if she will give a breakdown of the number of prisoners from each county in Ireland in each of the years from 1994 to 1996 or in the most recent three year period for which figures exist. [2305/97]

The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available. The data could be obtained only by the examination of approximately 6,000 manual records and the collation of information from a further 24,000 computer records. Such a use of staff time cold not be justified.
